Abstract

Pakan merupakan  faktor  sangat penting  dalam menunjang keberhasilan usaha peternakan. Ternak ruminansia sangat bergantung pada pakan hijauan. Di sisi lain, ketersediaan pakan hijauan sangat berfluktuasi, melimpah di musim hujan tetapi minim di saat musim kemarau.. Jerami  jagung adalah produk limbah samping pertanian yang berpotensi digunakan sebagai alternatif untuk pakan ternak ruminansia. Menggunakan jerami jagung sebagai pakan ternak untuk hewan ruminansia dapat membantu menyelesaikan masalah kekurangan pakan ternak terutama di musim kemarau. Penggunaan jerami jagung sebagai pakan ternak terbatas karena daya cerna yang rendah. Berbagai metode dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi nilai gizi jerami jagung yang terbatas seperti membuat hay dan silase sehingga kandungan nutrisinya dapat ditingkatkan. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk memberikan ulasan singkat tentang metode untuk meningkatkan nilai gizi jerami jagung sehingga dapat meningkatkan produktivitas ruminansia.
